Electrolysis Questions
Who Can Electrolysis Benefit?
Electrolysis is safe and effective for any gender, age or skin color.
Is Electrolysis Really Permanent?
Electrolysis has been around since the 1800s and is the only method of hair removal deemed permanent by the FDA. As long as you stick to your schedule and keep your appointments, you will see results. Over time you will come in less often and for a shorter length of time. Once successfully treated, a hair will not return.
Is Electrolysis Safe?
Yes. As long as performed by a knowledgeable professional. For over 100 years, it has proven to have no adverse effects on anyone’s skin or health.
How Do I Know If An Electrologist Is Qualified?
New York has no state board requirements for electrologists. If you have no one to refer you to a qualified electrologist, you should visit the office to see that it is clean and that it offers the level of privacy you desire. Also, be sure that individual needles and tweezers are used and that the practitioner wears disposable gloves. Membership in an electrolysis association shows that the electrologist is up to date with the latest information in the field.
Does Electrolysis Hurt?
The feeling will vary depending on the area being treated and how sensitive you are. There are anesthetic creams available to make the treatments comfortable.
How Long Does It Take?
Because of the nature of hair growth, all of the hairs you want removed will not be seen at the same time. Therefore, the number of treatments required will depend on many variables. The hair itself, your skin type and previous methods of hair removal, all contribute to the length of time it will take to remove your unwanted hair. And keep in mind, the hair probably didn’t appear overnight, so it will not disappear overnight. However, as long as you adhere to the schedule we have set up, you will see the results you want.
Will My Skin Be Affected?
Our treatments are gentle and will be tailored especially for you so that your skin will be protected. Following a treatment, depending on the area, your skin may appear slightly red or swollen. We will apply a medicated lotion to help soothe your skin. Once treatments are complete, your skin will be clear and smooth. Not only will electrolysis remove unwanted hair, but it will also alleviate acne and eliminate ingrown hairs.
What If It Doesn’t Work?
In my many years of practice, I have rarely seen a case where electrolysis didn’t work. The only times that it might be more challenging is if you have a medical problem, such as cystic ovaries, or a hormonal imbalance, either of which can often be treated by a doctor, after which you should see satisfactory results with electrolysis. Sometimes, certain medications can also cause hair growth. In those cases electrolysis can still be used to clear your skin of the hair as it appears.
