Permanent Makeup Questions
What is Permanent Makeup?
Permanent Makeup consists of implanting a natural iron-oxide pigment into the skin to create the desired effect. It is a safe and natural alternative to conventional makeup.
How is the procedure done?
At the consultation, we will discuss the procedures you want and work together to perfect the shape and color. At the time of the procedure, a topical anesthetic is applied and the procedure performed. Most procedures take about 1 ½ - 2 hours. Afterwards, you will be given post-procedure instructions and a topical antibiotic will be applied and we will schedule your follow-up appointment.
Will I have an allergic reaction?
Not likely. However, as a precaution, at the consultation, we can perform a patch test.
I get cold sores on my lips. Can I still have my lips done?
Yes. Just be sure to take your anti-herpes medication-either Zovirax or Valtrex - before your appointment. And keep in mind that the virus stays in your system. So even if it’s been years since your last outbreak, you still need to take the meds.
How long is the recovery time?
The recovery is just about immediate. Most clients return to their normal activities within a few hours. You will be given instructions to take home and, of course, you can call with any questions.
Will my permanent makeup fade?
The procedure is permanent in that it won’t wash off. However, over time the colors will soften. Your exposure to ultraviolet light (sun, tanning beds), salt water and chlorine (ocean, swimming pools), exfolients (scrubs, retinols, dermabrasion, alpha-hydroxies), as well as your chemical and genetic makeup will determine how much fading will occur.
What about touchups?
It is impossible to predict in advance when you will need a touchup. When you find yourself using conventional makeup it usually means it’s time to schedule a touchup. Most clients come in once a year to refresh the color to keep it looking as good as new.
